Location Info: Puna is located on the eastside (windward side) of the Big Island of Hawaii, sharing borders with the South Hilo District in the north and Kau District in the west. Puna is is characterized by broad and gentle slopes with no defined waterways. Its landscape is formed of porous volcanic rock and soils from Mauna Loa and Kilauea eruptions. There is an extensive network of subterranean lava tubes throughout much of the District, which are sometimes accessible through collapsed openings. Puna Parks (including Hawaii Volcano National Park) are definitely worth a visit. The area is quiet, balmy (about 2000 to 2500 feet above sea level) and offers plenty of potentials for future growth and development. The properties are zoned agricultural making it ideal not only for a residential place but also for a farm (e.g. Anthuriums, Orchids) or a livestock business. Electricity is available on the street and conveniences are just a few minutes drive to either Mt. View or Volcano Village. A pharmacy, a medical clinic, hardware store, grocery, health food store, laundromat, post office and restaurants are in the Keaau Shopping Center, about 10-15 minutes away.
